Giovanni Burgio è nato a Bologna nel 1961 ed è professore ordinario presso il Dipartimento di Scienze e Tecnologie Agro-Alimentari (Alma Mater Studiorum Università di Bologna). Ha conseguito il PhD in “Production Ecology and Resource” all’Università di Wageningen (The Netherlands). E’ titolare dei corsi di “Lotta biologica e integrata agli insetti”, “Functional biodiversity to enhance pollination and biological control of pests” (modulo 2), “Entomologia del verde ornamentale e del paesaggio”. I suoi principali settori di interesse sono l’entomologia agraria, la lotta biologica, la gestione del paesaggio agrario su diverse scale per il potenziamento della biodiversità funzionale in produzione biologica e integrata, e il campionamento dell’entomofauna. Si interessa attivamente inoltre della conservazione della sirfidofauna negli ambienti coltivati e naturali.

Giovanni Burgio was born in Bologna in 1961. He is appointed as full professor at the Alma Mater Studiorum University of Bologna. He received the PhD in “Production Ecology and Resource” from the University of Wageningen (The Netherlands). His teaching are focused on: “Biological and integrated control of pest insects”, “Functional biodiversity to enhance pollination and biological control of pests” (module 2), “Diseases of ornamental plants and their management”. The main areas of research are agricultural entomology, biological control, habitat management to enhance functional biodiversity in organic and integrated production, and sampling of insects of economic importance. He is also actively involved in the conservation of Hoverflies (Diptera Syrphidae) in cultivated and natural environments”.
