BIOGRAPHY
His research activity is focused on insect morphology, physiology, and development for defining new biotechnological applications. The main topics addressed are: i) insect-mediated bioconversion of organic waste and by-products, ii) study of cell death processes during metamorphosis in holometabolous insects, and iii) development of bio-inspired strategies for the control of pest insects. His research on black soldier fly has led to the first morphofunctional characterization of the digestive and immune systems of this insect.
Coordinator and partner of many national and international projects, he is associate editor of Journal of Insects as Food and Feed, and author of more than160 articles on international journals with impact factor.
