Laureata in Scienze Biologiche con lode presso l’Università di Roma “La Sapienza” nel 1984, ha conseguito il titolo di Dottore di Ricerca in “Evoluzione Biologica e Biochimica nel 1995. Dopo un periodo come borsista presso l’Istituto Superiore di Sanità, dal 1995 è in ruolo presso l’Università degli Studi della Tuscia, prima come Ricercatore, poi come Professore Associato e infine come Professore Ordinario di Zoologia. Ha ricoperto diverse cariche: Presidente del Centro Interdipartimentale di Microscopia Elettronica, Direttore del Dipartimento di Scienze Ambientali, Vice-Direttore, dalla sua istituzione, del Dipartimento per l’Innovazione nei sistemi Biologici, Agro-alimentari e Forestali e Pro Rettrice Vicaria dell’Ateneo, dal dicembre 2013.
L’attività di ricerca in campo entomologico riguarda principalmente lo studio morfo-funzionale di vari aspetti della biologia, in particolare della riproduzione e dello sviluppo, principalmente in insetti di interesse sanitario, quali Diptera Psychodidae, Culicidae, Ceratopogonidae (Leptoconops) e Glossinidae, ma anche Phasmida e Plecoptera.
Dal 2015 è Accademico Ordinario dell’Accademia Nazionale Italiana di Entomologia in cui è stata eletta Vice-Presidente dal novembre 2019.

Anna Maria Fausto graduated with honour in Biological Sciences at the Institute of Parasitology of University of Rome”La Sapienza”. In 1995 she obtained her PhD in “Biological and Biochemical Evolution”. After a period as scholarship at the Italian Institute of Health in Rome, she arrived at University of Tuscia, where became Resercher, then Associate Professor and since 2006 Full Professor of Zoology. Here she held different university posts: Head of the Interdepartmental Centre of Electron Microscopy, Head of the Department of Environmental Sciences, deputy Director of Department. for Innovation in Biological, Agro-food and Forest systems and since 2013 Vice Rector of University of Tuscia.
The entomological research activity mainly focuses on the study of different morpho-functional aspects of biology, in particular reproduction and development, in insects of medical interest, such as: Diptera Psychodidae, Culicidae, Ceratopogonidae (Leptoconops) e Glossinidae, and also in Phasmida e Plecoptera.
Since 2015 she has been a member of the Italian Academy of Entomology where she has been elected Vice-President since 2019.
