BIOGRAFIA
Si è laureato in Scienze Agrarie presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania nel 1980 e ha svolto il Dottorato di Ricerca in Entomologia Agraria presso l’Università di Napoli “Federico II”, conseguendo il titolo nel 1987. Dal 2001 è professore ordinario di “Entomologia generale e applicata” presso l’Università degli Studi di Catania, dopo essere stato professore a contratto di “Zoologia agraria” presso l’Università Mediterranea di Reggio Calabria (1986-1990), ricercatore a tempo indeterminato (1990-1992) e professore associato (1992-2001) di “Entomologia generale e applicata” presso l’Università di Catania.
I suoi studi riguardano principalmente gli insetti fitomizi (soprattutto Emitteri Aleirodoidei e Psilloidei), il loro impatto sulle piante coltivate e il loro controllo integrato. Svolge anche studi su altre famiglie di insetti fitofagi e il loro controllo sostenibile nel rispetto delle risorse naturali e della biodiversità, su insetti fitofagi in ambiente urbano, sulla resistenza degli insetti agli insetticidi, su parassiti non insetti (soprattutto nematodi e roditori) delle colture, sui cambiamenti climatici e il loro impatto sulla biologia e diffusione degli insetti fitofagi. È autore di oltre 200 articoli scientifici e capitoli di libri, nonché di note divulgative sul controllo biologico e integrato degli insetti fitofagi curate per varie Istituzioni internazionali (tra cui F.A.O. e C.A.B.I.).

He graduated in Agricultural Sciences at the University of Catania in 1980 and carried out the PhD in Agricultural Entomology at the University of Naples “Federico II”, obtaining the title in 1987. Since 2001 he is full professor of ” General and applied entomology “at the University of Catania, after having been contract professor of” Agricultural Zoology”at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria (1986-1990), permanent researcher (1990-1992) and associate professor (1992-2001) of “General and applied entomology” at the University of Catania.
His studies mainly concern sap-sucking insects (especially Hemiptera Aleyrodoidea and Psylloidea), their impact on cultivated plants and their integrated control. He also carries out studies on other pest insect families and their sustainable control in respect of natural resources and biodiversity, on pest insects in urban environments, on insect resistance to insecticides, on non-insect pests (especially nematodes and rodents) of crops, on climate change and their impact on the biology and spread of pest insects. He is author of over 200 scientific articles and book chapters, as well as notes on biological and integrated control of pest insects committed by various international institutions (including F.A.O. and C.A.B.I.).
