With the contribution provided by the Municipal Administration of Bevagna (PG) to honor the memory of its distinguished citizen, the Italian National Academy of Entomology has established a national scientific award in honor of the Italian entomologist Filippo Silvestri (1873-1949).
Filippo Silvestri was an extraordinary scientist of unquestionable renown, internationally recognized as one of the founders of biological control and for his pioneering work on insect polyembryony. He carried out his academic activity at the University of Naples Federico II, where he served as Professor of Entomology at the Faculty of Agricultural Sciences in Portici from 1904 to 1948.

Award Criteria

The “Filippo Silvestri – Young Researchers Award” will be granted to a talented young Italian scholar working in the field of Entomology, who can demonstrate having successfully undertaken research on fundamental aspects of insect studies, ranging from plant protection to species interactions, up to their application in biological control.
